Medical Lab Testing and MOMS:
How It Works

More than 13 billion lab tests are performed each year in the United States, and over 70% of all clinical and medical decisions are based on test results.

How It Works: Clinical and Diagnostic Labs

Labs that require skilled phlebotomy labor for their tests will have the ability to access a national network of consistent, quality-focused services that effectively meet their test collection needs. MOMS is designed to be a convenient and compliant solution for labs, as all parties must agree to applicable terms and conditions to use the platform, which includes meeting HIPAA and PHI guidelines.

Labs can realize greater patient reach by experiencing more consistency and accessibility in the sample collection process. Additionally, labs benefit from the efficiency of utilizing one single platform that helps with both billing and growth.

To get started, visit https://laboratory.myonemedicalsource.com/ and click “Sign Up Now” on the left-hand side of the screen. Select the access plan that meets your coverage needs across the United States and fill in your contact information. You will receive a verification email after clicking “confirm.” Click the link in this email to complete the sign-up process.

Access to the MOMS platform is an annual commitment payable in equal monthly installments. All lab plans include access to the MOMS administrative portal, inclusion on the MOMS website as a participating lab, and promotion to the MOMS network through various marketing and collateral materials.

After creating an account, you will be able to upload test templates via the MOMS platform. This information includes the test name, methodology, turnaround time, description, and other details. You may also create panels by selecting multiple tests you have already uploaded.

From the MOMS portal, you can view a list of Medical Access Points on the network, and add them as collection sites for your tests. When patients search for collection locations in their area via the patient portal, those Medical Access Points will now show up as available for booking a collection appointment for your lab tests.

How It Works: Medical Access Points

A MAP: Medical Access Point™ is an urgent care center, clinic, pharmacy or any other site that has onsite skilled medical labor who are trained to perform lab collection services. By joining the MOMS network, Medical Access Points can realize better utilization of their existing labor, and can earn new patient foot traffic and revenue by allowing access to this labor.

To get started, schedule an onboarding demo or follow the simple instructions below.

  • Visit https://map.myonemedicalsource.com/ and click “Sign Up Now” on the left-hand side of the screen.
  • Fill in your contact information and create a password.
  • When you click “confirm,” a verification email will be sent to your inbox. Click the link in this email to complete the sign-up process.

After creating an account, you will be able to log-in to the MOMS platform to enter your hours of operation, including phlebotomy service hours (if different from regular operating hours). You will also be asked to confirm your service capacity by entering the number of blood draws your facility is capable of performing per hour.

There is no charge to join the MAP network and the process takes just a few minutes. You will need to agree to the applicable terms and conditions (which includes meeting HIPAA and PHI guidelines) as well as execute the agreements for using the platform before your MAP becomes active. If and when your MAP performs a specimen collection using the MOMS platform, we will collect a $2.50 platform transaction fee per collection.

How It Works: Connecting your MAP: Medical Access Point™ to Labs

Once you are on the network, you can click “Labs” on the left-hand toolbar to connect with new labs and view labs you are already connected with.

To add a lab to your network, click the addition icon and search by name, or view featured labs or all labs. To view lab information (such as testing and collection requirements), click on the lab. When you add a lab to your network, the lab will need to accept your request.

Check out this blog for step-by-step instructions on the connection process.

How It Works: Patient Queue

As a MAP: Medical Access Point™, you have the ability to click “Queue” on the left-hand toolbar to view your daily patient schedule, including each patient’s appointment time, lab order and patient history. You can also click the addition icon to add walk-in patients to your schedule. Check patients in and out using this page to ensure these services are added to your reports tab.

From the “Reports” page you can view your list of patients serviced as well as monthly revenue, which is paid by both patients and labs.
